All Hallowtide. Patio Party & Stewardship Thank You.

First, I want to say a big thank you to everyone who came out last Saturday for the Patio Blessing pumpkin carving and s’mores party at the Rectory! It was a lovely evening, thank you for helping bless the patio with your presence!

Also, I’d like to thank everyone who participated in Sunday’s Stewardship Sunday by offering your financial commitment to St. David’s for the coming year. If you haven’t yet done so, please feel free to stop by the office and drop it off, or email it to our Bookkeeper (bookkeeper@stdavidsglenview.org).

Finally, today is Hallowe’en, or more precisely All Hallows’ Eve. While All Saints’ Day or All Hallows is properly celebrated on November first, we will celebrate it this coming Sunday 11/3 at our usual 8 and 10 am services. We’ll also celebrate All Souls, or the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed on Sunday afternoon at 4 pm with a reception in the Undercroft following.

In this season of “All Hallowtide” when the Church draws our attention to those who have passed on from this earthly life, it is an appropriate time to dwell on our own mortality. While it may not be the most pleasant thing to think about, as Christians, we have a hope in the Resurrection, and we know the love of God that is stronger than death.

And so, I would like to encourage you to take a look at your Will and Estate Planning. Please make sure that you’ve left explicit instructions that you’d like a Christian Burial, (hopefully here at St. David’s!) and that you’ve remembered the Church in your Estate Planning. In case you didn’t know, you are welcome to, (and indeed encouraged!) to make arrangements to be buried here in our Memorial Garden, and you can even plan out the service, so that it’s all taken care of when the time comes. If you have any questions or would like any assistance, please let me know.

I hope you have a good Halloween, and I look forward to celebrating the rest of All Hallowtide with you on Sunday!

See you in Church!

Peace,

Fr Adler+

Last week’s chapter began with Julian the Apostate, and then contrasted him with the brothers Basil and Gregory, as well as their impressive sister Macrina. Then, towards the end of the chapter we encountered the famous saint from Gaul, Martin of Tours. Below I’m posting two videos from the same gentleman, one that reflects on Macrina and the other on Martin of Tours.
