Musician Search

I had fully intended to make an announcement last Sunday, but the Day Light Savings must have gotten to me, and I forgot to do so. I apologize! That being said, I am pleased to announce that St. David’s is officially receiving names for our next Director of Music, Organist, and Choir Director. We have posted the Job Description to a number of different places, including various organizations for musicians as well as the diocesan website and ours.

In February, Julie and Justin decided that their time with us would only be on an interim basis. They have graciously offered to stay on as long as we need so that we can have the opportunity to do a search. In the past three weeks, an advisory committee has been formed consisting of the following parishioners: Marilyn Berdick, Julie Howie, John Hughes as chair, Debbie Lowe, and Alex Topping.

When you take a look at the Job Description (here: stdavidsglenview.org/music), you’ll notice that it is intentionally left open as to whether we hire one or two persons to fill the music ministry position. If we are able to find one person who is skilled, capable, and willing to serve as Director of Music, Organist, and Choir Director, then that is fantastic. However, in order to widen the number of applicants as much as possible, we have decided to be flexible, and entertain the possibility of hiring two separate people: one serving as Choir Director and the other as Organist with one of the two serving as the Director of Music.

The advisory committee and I will be reviewing the applications in mid April, and thereafter begin to schedule interviews with candidates. Of course there are many things out of our control, but we are hoping to move quickly, with the aim of calling our new musician(s) by Memorial Day, and a start date sometime in the summer or early fall.

As we move along in the process I will keep you informed as to how things are going. In the meantime please share the Job Description with any and everyone you think might be interested, and please keep the Advisory Committee in your prayers as they do the work of discernment in the months ahead. If you have any questions at all, please feel free to reach out.

I hope you all are doing well as we are now a full week into our lenten pilgrimage. Below you’ll find a few prayer resources that I encourage you to check out, especially if you haven’t quite yet found a regular routine of prayer this season.

See you in Church!

Peace,

Fr Adler+

Prayer Apps

I know that I have already recommended the Forward Day by Day App put out by forward movement, but I will be happy to do so again. In this app you’ll find both the daily devotional that I know many of you already use that’s printed in those little booklets in the narthex, as well as options for praying Daily Morning and Evening Prayer.

They have a version that works on your desktop here: prayer.forwardmovement.org

And a version in the Apple App Store here: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/forward-day-by-day/id561455965

At our Vestry meeting on Tuesday evening two vestry members each recommended additional apps that they enjoy using.

Melissa Rose recommended the “Venite” App, which is also put out by Forward Movement. It helps pull up the Daily Morning and Evening Prayer right on your computer or phone.

The desktop version may be found here: venite.app/home

And the version on the Apple App Store is here: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/venite-app/id1502034358

Finally, Dana Palmer has been very impressed with the “Hallow” App, which has a large library of various resources for prayer, mediation, and relaxation. In particular he recommended the “Lent Pray 40 Challenge” that is underway. It includes reflections and guided prayers and meditations on the app. Unlike the above two resources that are completely free, “Hallow” does have a fee, but, they are currently running a 90 free trial that can be found right here:
