New book study opportunity!
Starting Aug. 1 through the end of September (9 weeks):
Thursday: 7 – 8 p.m. at the Melissa and Lawrie Rose house
The Universal Christ: How a Forgotten Reality Can Change Everything We See, Hope For, and Believe (2019) by Richard Rohr. This is a long-awaited book exploring what it means that Jesus was called “Christ,” and how this forgotten truth can restore hope and meaning to our lives.
“Here Fr. Richard helps us to see and hear Jesus of Nazareth in what he taught, what he did and who he is—the loving, liberating and life giving expression and presence of God. In so doing he is helping Christianity to reclaim its soul anew.” -Michael Curry, Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church in America.
“Fr. Richard challenges us to search beneath the surface of our faith and see what is sacred in everyone and everything. Anyone who strives to put their faith into action will find encouragement and inspiration in the pages of this book.” -Melinda Gates, author of The Moment of Lift.
If you are interested, there are two more seats “at the table” (we are not really at a table but that is a good saying anyway). You must purchase the book (available through Amazon and other booksellers but Amazon has the best price right now) and plan to read a chapter a week before the meeting so we can have a lively and engaged discussion.
If you are interested contact Kathleen Murphy at email@example.com.
Note from Kathleen: I started reading this book in June and it is kind of mind blowing; “’Christ’ is not just Jesus’ last name” has meaning. It seems like an excellent follow up to the Surprised by Hope book study and DVD focused Forum sessions we did preparatory to Easter earlier this year.
If you would be interested in this book study but not on Thursday, I would be happy to facilitate another group discussion on a Saturday early p.m..
Father Tom's Mission Trip Goal Reached
Father Tom wanted to extend a special “Thank You” to all those who donated to his Fresnillo, Zacatecas, Mexico Mission trip, He will be departing this Friday August 19th returning July 26th.
With all of the generous donations he was able to meet his goal. He is looking forward to his tenth summer with college students to the mission in Mexico. The Mission was established over twenty years ago to minister to the poor children in Fresnillo.
